The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust carries out visual and acoustic cetacean surveys every summer from our research vessel, Silurian. Our research investigates cetacean distribution, relative abundance and habitat preferences using observers, acoustic monitoring and photo identification. Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the research, and will receive full training in survey techniques. As our survey vessel is a sailing boat, there is also the opportunity to learn sailing skills. No specific experience is required to work as a volunteer onboard.
