Dear friends, The TETHYS RESEARCH INSTITUTE announces its 2012 courses on cetacean research and conservation, held in the Pelagos Sanctuary (Western Ligurian Sea), Italy. Founded in 1986, Tethys is a private non-profit organisation specialising in cetacean research. Over 26 years, Tethys has generated one of the largest datasets on Mediterranean cetaceans and contributed over 300 scientific publications. Tethys aims to protect the Mediterranean biodiversity by promoting the adoption of a precautionary approach for the management of natural resources. Public outreach and conservation activities, coupled with education and capacity building, find their strength in a robust scientific background. The work carried out by Tethys, funded partially by the support received by participants to our field courses, strives to prevent the decline of marine species and to encourage sustainable use of the marine environment. These courses are ideal for anyone with an interest in wildlife, wishing to observe cetaceans in their natural environment and contribute towards their conservation. The 6-day courses take place between May-September at a cost of 860.00 - 960.00 Euros. Fees include room&board, insurance, taxes. Discounts for students are available.
