SEAFARI is a non-profit effort to encourage and facilitate public engagement in marine mammal studies and rescue. SEAFARI is an app freely available for both iOS and Android. It allows users to log sightings of marine mammals anywhere in the world, and provides them with some information on the species. Information such as GPS position, behaviour, group size etc. as well as pictures can also be submitted. All sightings are then confirmed manually by the app administrator. All data collected via the app are freely available to researchers upon request. At the moment the app is somewhat Africa-centric, but we are trying to fill in the information on the missing species. Thus we would like to invite specialists in their taxa to provide us with a brief note and/or good pictures of their focal species, that could be used as an educational base for SEAFARI users. We are particularly interested in: Atlantic white-sided dolphin Amazon river dolphin Australian humpback dolphin Beluga whale Bowhead whale Commerson‘s dolphin Dall‘s porpoise Narwhal North Atlantic right whale North Pacific right whale Omura‘s whale Peale‘s dolphin White-beaked dolphin All efforts are voluntary, and the running costs paid from a private pocket. The app does not and will not generate any income, and is free for everyone together with the collected data. Thus we are not able to provide any payment for your contributions.
