The Marine Mammals Management Office of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Alaska Region is recruiting up to three Quantitative Ecologists. Our program is responsible for the conservation and management of polar bears, northern sea otters, and Pacific walruses in Alaska. We promote international coordination between the United States, Russian Federation, Norway, Greenland, and Canada, co-management of subsistence hunting and other activities with Alaska Native people, habitat conservation, species protection, and the regulation of offshore and coastal economic development activities to ensure compliance with the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, and all other relevant laws and regulations. We seek highly qualified candidates with experience in advanced biometric principles and statistical theories to estimate wildlife populations and dynamics using methods that include hierarchical Bayesian modelling, wildlife population and demographics modeling, GIS spatial and statistical analysis, and spatial analysis integration using R software.
