The School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine invites applications for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in any area of animal physiology, including marine mammal physiology, to join an interdisciplinary and dynamic group of marine scientists and educators. Areas of research may include, but are not limited to: organismal adaptations to a changing climate; physiological consequences of pollutant exposure; and related studies of ecological resilience at the sub-organism, whole-organism, and population scales. The successful candidate will address questions that bridge the lab and field, and they are encouraged to use a diversity of tools (e.g. omics) while also having strong expertise in whole-organism physiology. Teaching expectations include advising Ph.D., M.S., and undergraduate research students, annual participation in core courses for undergraduates in comparative physiology, cellular & molecular biology, and other courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The successful candidate will have a workload split of 50% teaching and 50% research, as well as advise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and possibly post-doctoral associates. The successful candidate will engage in institutional and professional service and will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the University and the discipline.
