University of New England Endowed Chair in Marine Sciences The University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, seeks to fill a position of Endowed Chair of Marine Sciences. The individual would serve as Department chair and Director of the Center for Land-Sea Interaction. We desire a model mentor, teacher and researcher who is qualified to hold the position of a tenured professor or associate professor in Marine Sciences. The Department has a strong undergraduate (over 200 students) and a small graduate (17 students) program in Marine Sciences. Responsibilities The new chair/director will be expected to: - ensure excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; - increase the level and scope of extramural funding that supports academic and research initiatives in the Marine Sciences and the Center for Land-Sea Interaction; - develop a national reputation for UNE's marine science programs; - expand on UNE's excellence in master's-level and undergraduate research; and - enhance the programs' outreach efforts in the community and the region. Qualifications The successful candidate will: - bring an established, externally funded, research program; - have proven experience and skills in leadership, administration, mentoring and strategic planning; - have the ability to work cooperatively with university and extramural partners to advance the mission of UNE's marine sciences. - have the ability to build connections between the marine sciences and human and community health disciplines is preferred. The Marine Science Center houses departmental faculty, student and staff offices, research and teaching labs, a flow through seawater system, a marine animal (pinnipeds, harbor porpoise, and sea turtles)rehabilitation center, and a fleet of small boats. The facilities are located on UNE's Biddeford, Maine campus, located at the confluence of the Saco River and the Atlantic Ocean. UNE’s Biddeford campus is also home to the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Osteopathic Medicine; and has convenient access to our Portland, Maine campus which houses the Westbrook College of Health Professions and the College of Pharmacy.
