The first paper shares the first ever recorded documentation of a long-finned pilot whale expelling placental material, close inshore to the Shetland Isles, UK. This type of interaction likely occurs reasonably regularly between UK seal species and otters, however it has never been described in the literature, despite it having potential implications for inter-species disease transmission and interesting potential implications of 'risky' behaviour between species.
