Dear all, The Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI) (http://www.thebdri.com) is a marine science centre dedicated since 2005 to promoting the conservation of marine mammals and their habitats through research, education, and public engagement. We are currently accepting applications for the position of: INTERN COORDINATOR This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marine mammal research and field coordination. The selected candidate will assist BDRI biologists in ongoing projects focusing on the effects of marine vessels on bottlenose dolphin behavior. The intern coordinator will work closely with and receive continuous guidance from our research team: Dr. Bruno Diaz Lopez (Director), Dr. Severine Methion (Research and Staff Manager), Ms. Nathalie Dunel Roig, and Ms. Joyce Neves (PhD Candidates). Position Details Location: O Grove, northwestern coast of Spain (Galicia) Start Date: Mid-January 2026 (flexible, can start slightly later) End Date: End of August 2026 Compensation: This is an unpaid position, but accommodation, equipment, and full training and supervision will be provided. Main Responsibilities - Coordinate communication between BDRI researchers and interns. - Oversee the intern shared house and welcome new interns onsite. - Assist with the training of interns in both field and lab techniques, including: - Land-based surveys of wild dolphins and otters - Photo-identification analysis - Data entry and database management - GIS and spatial analysis - Otter diet analysis Requirements Academic background in biology, ecology, veterinary science, or natural sciences. Strong teamwork, leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate up to 10 interns. High motivation, independence, and physical fitness for field and lab work. Fluency in English (required); Spanish proficiency (desirable). Additional Opportunities This position also offers the chance to develop a personal research project, supervised by BDRI’s principal investigators (Dr. Bruno Diaz Lopez and Dr. Severine Methion). Work Schedule Laboratory work: approximately 8 hours per day. Fieldwork: typically 4+ hours per survey, occurring 2–3 times per week. Two days off per week. Please note that fieldwork is weather-dependent and varies seasonally, requiring flexibility and adaptability. Financial Information This position is unpaid. However, accommodation in the intern shared house is provided.
