PhD Opportunity for a veterinarian

The Australian Marine Mammal Research Centre (AMMRC), Sydney, has an opening for a PhD student to commence in March 2008.

The PhD student would need to be a qualified veterinarian with clinical experience in anaesthetics.

While the focus of the PhD would need to be on Antarctic pinnipeds the project itself can be either one the successful candidate has chosen or a component of an existing project being conducted as part of our current research program.

A requirement of the student would be that they are available to participate in the 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10 Antarctic field seasons (3 to 4 months over summer). There is no scholarship associated with this project so the successful candidate would need to be eligible for a scholarship or have other means to financially support themselves for the duration of their PhD. Program support, equipment, logistical support and your travel to and from Antarctica and support while in Antarctica, are supported by the AMMRC program.
