The Northeast Region Stranding (NERS) network is the oldest in the nation with members responding to strandings since the early 1970s. It is network comprised of dedicated organizations authorized by NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Northeast Regional Office to provide marine mammal and sea turtle response to over 16,700 miles of varied coastline from Maine to Virginia. This conference brings together professionals engaged within interdisciplinary fields associated with the wild populations of marine mammals and sea turtle species found within Northwest and Mid-Atlantic waters. This conference will focus on discussions and collaborations within the Northeast marine mammal and sea turtle network. Emphasis will be made on integrating regional resources within federal and state interagency responses. The gathering of marine mammal and sea turtle response experts, wildlife health professionals, and population and ecological stakeholders will enhance partnerships, enable discussion and provide training to foster and strengthen a regional approach to concerns over the ocean's health. There will be a training workshop on facilitating and preparing for emergency response such as an oil spill response or natural disaster.
