Dear MARMAM colleagues,

We are happy to share our new paper titled "Marine protected areas miss key habitats of Bryde's whales and bottlenose dolphins exposed to anthropogenic stressors" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.marpolbul.2025.118265). We employed habitat suitability modeling and a novel exposure index to identify areas where Bryde's whales and bottlenose dolphins overlap with cumulative human impacts and existing MPAs along the Brazilian coast.

Highlights:
- Southeastern Brazil holds key habitats for Bryde's whales and bottlenose dolphins
- Oceanic areas under high stress remain unprotected by marine protected areas
- High overlap with oil and gas activities in the Southeast elevates risks for species
- Effective conservation needs stronger MPAs and stressor mitigation strategies
