We are delighted to invite applicants for a PhD opportunity at the University of Plymouth to survey cetaceans in the western English Channel and estimate abundance, distribution and exposure to shipping noise. The project will manage ongoing
data collection aboard the University’s sailing vessel ‘Take the Helm’ conducting visual and acoustic surveys using a towed hydrophone array in the English Channel and combine these data with passive acoustic data from a moored hydrophone to model exposure
to vessel noise. The project will be supervised by Dr Simon Ingram and Dr Clare Embling at the University of Plymouth in collaboration with Dr Rosalyn Putland at CEFAS (Centre for Environment Fisheries & Aquaculture Science). The post is a 5 year part time
