On the 8 June 2019 (yes, this Saturday) we are launching the “Annual SealSpotter Challenge”.

This date aligns with World Oceans Day and we are registering our challenge for global participation.

The challenge starts 9am Saturday 8 June through to 23 June (AEST).

What is the challenge?

· To count as many pups and seals as we can in two weeks

· To get friends and family to help out – even a few extra images is a big help

· To have Citizen Scientists participating in as many countries as we can

Amongst our other successes, this newsletter showcases the wonderful collaboration with STEM Sisters, a program to mentor and excite young women interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) skills.

Thank you all for participating in SealSpotter last year and we hope you are keen to get involved in the challenge in 2019.

We are aiming for three replicate counts of 4000 images in two weeks – and I know we can do it.

Your collaboration helps us understand changes in our marine ecosystem and benefits our conservation efforts. From your efforts, we develop research outcomes that influence decision making.
