The South East Asian Marine Mammal Stranding Network (SEAMMSN) was
established last February 9, 2013 as a result of a regional Symposium
on marine mammal strandings in South East Asia, held at Ocean
Adventure in Subic Bay Freeport, Philippines. The SEAMMSN is a
non-political, science based network dedicated to promoting the best
practice of marine mammal stranding response and management through
the open and free exchange of information, data, materials, methods
and protocols in order to conserve marine mammals and their habitats
in the South East Asian region.

Eighty individuals from 12 countries attended the Symposium sharing
their stranding experiences, engaging in discussion, and working in
small groups to identify goals and objectives for a regional stranding
network. The result of the Symposium was the formation of the
South East Asia Marine Mammal Stranding Network. The core organizations
of this network include Ocean Park Conservation Foundation - Hong
Kong, Ocean Park Hong Kong, Ocean Adventure, University of the
Philippines - Institute of Environmental Scienceand Meteorology,
University of St Andrew's, Philippine Marine Mammal Stranding Network,
Taiwan Cetacean Society, and Whale Stranding Indonesia. For a complete
