Lead for Science

The IWC Secretariat is recruiting a new lead for science. This is an important role, providing support to the Scientific Committee, its leadership, meetings and work programme. The wide-ranging responsibilities of the post also include facilitating communication and co-ordination between science and other areas of the IWC work programme, supporting the strategic development of the Secretariat, and management of a small team. The postholder is also Editor of the Journal of Cetacean Research and Management.

The successful candidate will:

hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (Zoology, Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, Environmental/Fisheries Policy etc.)
have the ability to explain complex scientific information to a non-specialist audience and the ability to form credible relationships with scientists, Contracting Governments and other stakeholders
have a track record of delivering work on time and on budget
have extensive knowledge of the peer review process and experience of working in an editorial or similar role
be able to lead, develop and empower a team

This full-time (37.5 hours), permanent post will be based at the IWC headquarters in Impington.
