Graduate student position in marine mammal trophic ecology.  The Dauphin Island Sea Lab seeks an MS-level graduate student in marine mammal trophic ecology (experience with marine mammal observation, stranding and necropsy response, and/or photo-identification is preferred but not required). Students must have a strong interest in hypothesis-based research, background in chemistry, and experience with statistical methods. Experience with small boat operation and trailering also preferred.  Work is both lab and field based, and students must be able to work long hours conducting detailed work with a microscope and processing tissue samples as well as in the field during unfavorable weather conditions.  The suitable candidate must be independent and highly motivated.  Strong public speaking skills and work with the public are necessary.

 

Students will apply through the University of South Alabama (USA) for matriculation in fall 2018, but the most suitable candidate will begin work in the lab in January 2018. Students must meet the minimum qualifications for entry to the University of South Alabama graduate school of Arts and Sciences and the Marine Sciences Department and have relevant coursework in the topic area of interest.
