Defenders of Wildlife's seventh biennial conference on marine and terrestrial carnivore biology and conservation will be held November 15-18, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. This promises to build on our track record of bringing together academics, activists, and wildlife professionals to discuss a wide array of issues involved in carnivore conservation. The 2009 conference headquarters is the Grand Hyatt Denver.  The conference tends to draw anywhere between 500-800 people.

Defenders of Wildlife is currently accepting abstract submissions for individual talks and posters at the 2009 Carnivore Conference. We will consider any papers covering topics such as biology, behavior, taxonomy, general ecology, recovery, management and economic impacts of terrestrial, avian and marine carnivore species (canids, felids, bears, mesocarnivores, raptors, whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, sharks, etc.).

We are also seeking papers addressing the challenges of conserving carnivores and their habitats in the face of climate change, alterations in land use and other aspects of a changing world (including but not limited to habitat conservation, planning and linkages, invasive species, land use and development challenges).

For this conference we will have two marine mammal experts on the conference science advisory committee:

Dr. Jim Estes and Dr. Lloyd Lowry

Individual Talks:
Abstracts for 15-minute talks may also be submitted individually, and conference staff will make every effort to group them into sessions with related talks. Please provide a clear and concise (250 words maximum) description of your research topic including outline of the question, brief overview of methods, and a short statement of results and conclusions. Please include contact information for all authors, specify which author is to be the presenter, indicate if the abstract is for a poster or talk, and identify any audiovisual needs. The deadline for individual abstracts is June 1, 2009.

Posters:
Posters (4 feet by 4 feet maximum) will be displayed throughout the conference. There will be a special poster session one evening during the conference, with snacks and beverages available. Poster authors should plan to be on hand to answer questions during this session. Poster abstract submissions should include an overview of topic, author contact information, and must be received by June 1, 2009.
