Bio-Waves, Inc., is pleased to announce that registration is now open for our Passive Acoustic Technician Training course. This five day course will be held at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, La Jolla, California from Monday April 30^th through Friday May 4^th, 2012, with an optional training day at sea on Saturday, May 5^th. The course combines theoretical instruction with hands-on demonstrations and training to give participants a working knowledge of passive acoustic monitoring hardware, software, data review and data management. By the end of the course, participants will have the tools and basic skills to work as bio-acoustic field technicians (e.g research, mitigation an monitoring technicians). All participants will receive course materials and other useful information for use in the field.

The optional at-sea training will provide the opportunity for students to participate in towed-hydrophone array operations on the R/V Sea Explorer operated by the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, California. The at-sea option is offered at an additional cost to the “Instruction Only” option, and is dependent upon a minimum number of participants signing up for this option (confirmation of the at-sea training day will only be available when the minimum has been met).

The Passive Acoustic Technician Training course provides lectures and and practical training on the following subjects:

· setup, operation, troubleshooting and repair of towed hydrophone arrays and sonobuoys

· hands-on demonstration of software used to detect, localize and classify sounds produced by marine mammals
