First Inter-Research Symposium: Satellite Tracking for the Conservation of Marine Vertebrates (27^th of  February, 2007)

The final plenary of the 27th International Sea Turtle Symposium (ISTS 27; Kingston Plantation, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, 25-27^th February 2007) will be given over to the 1st Inter-Research Symposium: “Satellite Tracking for the Conservation of Marine Vertebrates”. The session (27th of  February) will take a critical multi-taxon overview as to how satellite tracking has given conservation insight in a range of marine vertebrates. This has been financially supported by Inter-Research as part of series of such symposia (see <http://www.ir-symposia.com>). Support includes student travel and funding of keynote speaker and including the following (in addition to several other marine turtle focussed presentations; final titles to be confirmed):

Dr. Brendan Godley (Editor in Chief, Endangered Species Research and University of Exeter, UK): Introduction and sea turtle overview

Prof. Mike Fedak (University of St Andrews, UK): seals

Dr. Molly Lutcavage (University of New Hampshire, USA): pelagic fishes

Dr. Bruce Mate (Oregon State University, USA): great whales

Prof. Rory Wilson (University of Wales, Swansea, UK): seabirds

These papers will form the core of a forthcoming themed issue “Satellite Tracking for Conservation of Endangered Species” of the fast-growing I-R journal Endangered Species Research (ESR): <http://www.int-res.com/journals/esr/esr-home/>. Submission of other relevant papers from the ISTS 27 and from all other researchers, from the wider research community, irrespective of taxon of study, for this special issue are welcomed. In line with current ESR policy, to maximise impact, the special themed issue will be fully open-access on-line without charge to authors.
