We have opened up registration and abstract submission for the First International Workshop on Marine Mammal Conservation Translocation which will be held in the lead up to the World Marine Mammal Conference in Barcelona, Spain.

Time: 9 AM - 5 PM

Venue: Hotel Barcelona Princess (subject to change)

Cost: $30 USD for Students and $50 USD for Professionals

Topic Updates:

The agenda is filling up with presentations on river dolphins, monk seals, Maui's dolphins, sea otters, and more. There will also be a presentation by representatives of the IUCN Conservation Translocation Specialist Group. We are still looking for more presentations and posters so please contact us if you are interested.

Workshop Objectives:

1) Normalize translocation as a potential tool to help in the conservation and management of marine mammals

2) Review historical and ongoing translocation programs (terrestrial and marine) and share justifications and reasons for successes and failures

3) Develop a series of broad and taxa-specific best practices to help inform current and future translocation programs to increase the probability of success

4) Develop a set of criteria to identify marine mammal taxa that may benefit from

5) Disseminate information on translocations to the marine mammal conservation and research community.

Who Should Attend:

Experts in marine mammal conservation, taxa specialists working on species that are undergoing or may require conservation translocations now or in the future, students interested in discussions about applied conservation activities, NGO's interested in the future of marine mammal conservation.

Call for Presentation/Posters:

We are looking for subject matter experts to present on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:

1) Taxa specific translocation case studies - objectives, methods, outcomes, and lessons learned.

2) Species in crises that may be candidates for conservation translocations

3) Policy experts for legal considerations for conservation translocation planning

4) Zoo and Aquaria and other expertise that can provide insight on aspects of conservation translocations or other special considerations (ex. temporary holding, transport, physiology etc.)

5) And more.
