2007 WORLD CONFERENCE ON NATURAL RESOURCE MODELING

Registration is now open – early registration ends April 1.  We encourage your early registration, as on-site lodging is limited and off-site lodging reservations must be made early.

The RMA  was founded in the early 1980s by a group of applied mathematicians, applied population biologists, fisheries scientists, and resource economists who hold annual meetings and sponsor special sessions at conferences.  The RMA publishes the journal Natural Resource Modeling, which was established on the premise that there is a conceptual and methodological core that is common to model building throughout disciplines that include such fields as forestry, fisheries, economics and ecology.  This core draws upon the analytical and methodological apparatus of mathematics, statistics, and computer modeling. 

Areas of special interest in 2007 include natural resource modeling of forests and oceans and public policy issues in the 21^st century.  Keynote speakers include Marc Mangel (UC Santa Cruz), Greg Amacher (Virginia Tech), and Alan Ek (Univ. Minnesota).

The conference will feature a student poster competition, an ocean excursion, a concert, and a special presentation on global warming.  We especially encourage graduate students to attend!  Some local funding support is available for graduate students, courtesy of the Sea Grant at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

The IEA, committed to an interdisciplinary approach to environmental issues, is now accepting submissions of papers and posters for the 2007 conference.  We welcome research that crosses the boundaries of traditional disciplines to frame environmental problems, propose working models or initiate field or community projects.  Areas of special interest in 2007 include environmental issues in New England and the Maritime provinces, political decision-making in environmental policy, coastal management issues, health and urban environmental challenges, economic, legal and business strategies with the environment, and sustainability.  SPECIAL TOPIC:  Accreditation and Environmental Programs.
