Dear MARMAM and ECS list members (apologies for cross-posting),
We are seeking information on possible effects of high-speed powerboat
races (Class 1) on bottlenose dolphins or other delphinids.
In September 2006, a powerboat race Class 1 has been organized in the
Slovenian sea, where Morigenos - marine mammal research and
conservation society has been studying a population of bottlenose
dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) for the past 5 years.
Morigenos has been monitoring the race and the local dolphin population
throughout the period of the race, in order to prevent any collisions
and to gather data on the topic. Acoustic recordings were made in
collaboration with Miramare natural reserve, Italy.
A report for the Slovenian Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning
is currently being prepared.
Any published papers or anecdotal reports on the matter would be highly
useful.
Please send your comments or papers to: tilen.genov@gmail.com
Best wishes,
Tilen Genov
