(1) Provide
training in marine mammal necropsy procedures, data collection, and tissue sampling techniques.
(2) Acquire
insights into potential threats facing marine mammals.
(3) Promote
harmonization to enable regional analysis and interpretation of findings.
(4) Explore
the integration of new technologies and to develop and implement telenecropsy and online consultations with marine mammal health specialists.
The workshop is organized in two steps:
- May
13: on-line webinar on dissection and sampling procedures: compulsory to participate at the on-site necropsy workshop.
- July
9-11: on-site necropsy workshop.
The number of attendees is limited to 20, in order to pair off participants under the supervision of experts in marine mammals post-mortem. Necropsy and sampling equipment will be available and personal protective equipment (rubber boots, latex gloves, mask and adequate laboratory coats) will be provided.
