Protected Species Observers (PSO) help minimize potential impacts of human activities on federally protected marine mammals and sea turtles. PSOs monitor these animals during coastal and offshore projects (construction, geological and geophysical surveys, etc.).
Upon course completion and passing the exam, students receive an industry-accepted PSO certification. Taught by PSOs and marine mammal scientists with experience in the mid-Atlantic and northeastern US, this training focuses on monitoring protected species
in coastal NJ and surrounding regions.
