Humans and seals interact in a number of ways that may adversely affect seals or humans or both. The challenge facing governments and industry is how to minimise adverse interactions while protecting seals and maintaining sustainable and profitable businesses. A national strategy has been developed that identifies objectives and actions to minimise adverse impacts on Australian seal populations and on the fisheries, aquaculture and tourism sectors.
